The actor was most remembered for his work on ‘All My Children’ as Phil Brent, one of Erica Kane’s (Susan Lucci) husbands, for which he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 1979.

Nick Benedict, best known for his roles on All My Children and The Young and the Restless, has passed away. He was 76.

An internet obituary confirmed his death, stating that the actor died on July 14. Jake’s Steakhouse in Tehachapi, California, where Benedict’s wife Ginger works, also publicized the news on Facebook on July 15.

“Nick Benedict’s birthday was July 14,” the caption said. Today he went to be with the Lord. Please keep Ginger in your prayers.”

The cause of Benedict’s death has not been made public. PEOPLE have contacted Ginger for further information.

The Facebook post reporting Benedict’s death also linked a GoFundMe page for the pair, which was set up just before Benedict’s death. According to the page, Benedict underwent emergency spinal cord surgery on July 2 and was later admitted to hospice.

“Nick Benedict served in the Navy and was an actor, musician, and painter.” Ginger and Nick’s marriage has lasted 22 years. “Both have been active members of the Tehachapi community for many years,” according to the page. “On Sunday, July 2nd, Nick underwent emergency spinal cord surgery.” He was admitted to hospice on July 4th. He is immobile from the neck down. He will require ongoing care and support.”
