William John Horschel was born on December 7, 1986. He grew up in Grant, Florida, where he attended Bayside High School in nearby Palm Bay. He attended the University of Florida, Gainesville, where he studied track and field. From 2006 to 2009, he played on the Florida Gators golf team in competition with the NCAA. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management.
