Elise Mertens is a professional tennis player born in Leuven, Belgium, on November 17, 1995. 

She is a member of the Kim Clijsters Academy, where she has been training since 2015.

She was home-schooled and enjoyed studying languages, speaking French, English, and Flemish Dutch.

Her older sister, Lauren, is currently an airline pilot and introduced the then four-year-old Elise to tennis.

On the WTA Tour, she has six singles titles and 15 doubles titles. She is a top 15 player in both singles and doubles, with a career-high singles ranking of No. 12 in 2018.

Martens as far as we know does not have a brother. As stated earlier she only has one older sister that we know of.

Mertens was seeded 19th at the Australian Open in 2022 and advanced to the St Petersburg Trophy semifinals.

In Dubai, she won her fifteenth doubles title with Veronika Kudermetova. She lost in the first round of doubles as the top seed and defending champion to Eri Hozumi and Makoto Ninomiya.

Martens returned to the Internationaux de Strasbourg during the week of May 15th. Caty McNally defeated her in the first round of the Birmingham Classic, where she was seeded fourth.
