Dr. Stefan Balan, MD – Winchester, MA

Dr. Balan has been building hematology and oncology programs and bringing them up to their potential for 25+ years in most diverse settings, such as academic, VA, and community-based.

He practices an HBR-style management, data-driven and financially responsible, based on emotional intelligence and harnessing the constant shift in cultural paradigms of both patients and physicians.

Leading by example, he is an experienced hematologist and oncologist who delivers state-of-the-art care in a culturally attuned way, treating his patients as human beings and accompanying them through their existential trials. He is the recipient of several awards, such as the American Cancer Society Lane Adam's award and the Champions & Visionaries of Healthcare Award.

Over the years he has been teaching medical students, residents, and fellows at Dartmouth Medical School, New York University, and Mount Sinai, among others, subjects as diverse as prostate cancer, anemias, cancer screening, colorectal cancers, chemotherapeutics, lean and six sigma concepts, biostatistics, and humanism in medicine.

It is his firm belief that without access to research one cannot offer the full breadth of cancer treatments, and over the years he has acted as a local principal investigator for numerous phase II and III clinical trials.

Wherever he works he strives at making it meaningful, for patients, colleagues, and himself.
