GoFundMe; Trung Tran “Michael, died in the Holyoke Mall shooting
A GoFundMe account was launched Monday night to support funeral costs for Trung Tran after he was killed in a shooting at the Holyoke Mall Saturday night.
Tran, 33, of West Springfield, who also went by the name Michael, according to the GoFundMe page, worked at A Touch of Beauty Hair & Nail Spa in the Holyoke Mall. He was shot after his customer allegedly started to argue with a man who came into the salon, court records indicate.
The GoFundMe page hopes to collect $20,000. As of about 8 p.m. Monday, more than 100 people had donated almost $6,000, the largest donation being $1,000 by an anonymous person.
The page, created by Tony Vo of Huntington, said, in part, “This has been very hard on all of us. Trung (Michael) was a hardworking, lovely employee, who always made sure not only his customers but his coworkers were ok.”
The nail salon’s Facebook page said the account will help Tran’s wife and son.
Kenneth Rodriguez-Santana, 23, of Robert Dyer Circle, Springfield, was arraigned Monday on charges of murder and assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with Tran’s death.
Holyoke District Court Judge William P. Hadley ordered Rodriguez-Santana held without bail after entering not guilty pleas on his behalf. He continued the case until Feb. 27.
