Herman Leach dies in house fire, Yazoo County’s first Black supervisor, civil rights activist

It is reported that Herman Leach has passed away revealing that Leach death was cause by house fire.

Leach perished in a house fire on Friday night at his residence in the Jonestown neighborhood of Yazoo City, according to Yazoo County Sheriff Jacob Sheriff.

Although the sheriff claims there were no other people inside the house, investigators are still trying to identify how the fire originated.

According to Leach’s family, he blazed a trail for other African Americans who aspired to hold public office.

Included in this is his brother Wardell Leach, the first African American mayor of Yazoo City from April 1998 until May 2006.
