James Leroy β€œLee” Thomas was an American professional baseball player and front-office executive. As general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies from 1988 to 1997, Thomas built the Phillies from a below .500 club into the 1993 champions of the National League.

Lee is an All-Star player who eventually became the architect of the 1993 NL champion Philadelphia Phillies. He died at the age of 86. He died Wednesday at his home in St. Louis, the Phillies announced. No details about the cause were given it could be a natural death looking at his age.

Lee is survived by his wife named Susie Thomas, and his four sons namely Matthew Thomas, Scott Thomas, Deron Thomas and Daryl Thomas.

Lee was born in Peoria, Illinois, on February 4, 1936, James Leroy Thomas says he never knew his biological father who is called John Leonard Thomas. He was raised by his mother who is named Dorothy (Hutchison) Johanson (1919-96), and his stepfather, Hildor E. Johanson (1908-91), who married his mother when Thomas was still a boy. He has four siblings namely Lauren, Richard, Caitlyn, and Colton.
