Mark Ridgeway Killed at the Schools Parking lot, a history Teacher and Bus Driver

Mark Ridgeway, a history teacher and bus driver for students in grades 10-12, was slain while performing his daily pre-route inspection in the school parking lot this morning.
Mr. Ridgeway was standing outside the bus when it began to roll, striking him, as reported by WVTM13.

He was only 58 years old; Mark Ridgway’s wife is a faculty member here.
Mr. Ridgeway’s 20-year tenure in the Jefferson County School System was a testament to his dedication to the district’s students.
Mr. Ridgeway, as reported by Lisa Crane of WVTM13, was also a minister of a church in Sumiton.

Principal Craig Kanaday from Mortimer Jordan sent the following statement to the media this afternoon:

Mark Ridgeway, a former student of Mortimer Jordan, devoted his life to helping others. Until this past summer, when he retired as a pastor and a teacher at Mortimer Jordan High School, he also drove a school bus full of students to and from school. He cared deeply for God, his family, and his academic pursuits. Mark was a close friend and colleague of mine for almost 25 years, and his passing has left not only a hole in my life but in the lives of everyone who knew him. Moments like these serve as a stark reminder of how precious and vulnerable human life truly is.

Right now, more than ever, the Ridgeways and the Jordans of Mortimer need our help.

Let us tell his loved ones how much we shall miss him as a public servant.
