Marshawn Mitchell Aka Shawno Death: What Happened?

Tragedy Strikes as Marshawn Mitchell Aka Shawno is Fatally Shot Leaving Homecoming Football Game

A heart-wrenching incident occurred following a homecoming football game at Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills, Illinois, where 14-year-old Marshawn Mitchell, known as Shawno, lost his life to a senseless act of violence. The shocking shooting has left his family, friends, and the entire community in deep mourning.

The tragic incident unfolded around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, after the football game had concluded. According to investigators, police officers were in the process of dispersing a large group of people along 175th Street when an unidentified gunman indiscriminately opened fire on the crowd.

Marshawn Mitchell was struck multiple times by the gunfire and was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Marshawn’s mother, Amanda Lenore, heartbroken by the loss of her only child, lamented, “They took my baby from me.” His great aunt, Tina Thomas, emphasized that Marshawn was a good kid, not involved in any gangs, and was simply at school on that fateful night.

The Hillcrest Hawks Football Team took to social media to express their sorrow, saying, “We are all saddened by the events that happened tonight after our Homecoming Football Game against Oak Forest. Please pray for our staff and students who have been affected by this unfortunate, senseless act of violence.” Country Club Hills Police have launched an investigation into the crime and hope that security measures at the school may yield valuable leads.

Community activist Andrew Holmes has stepped forward to offer a reward of at least $2,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of the perpetrator. Holmes emphasized that Marshawn was not targeted and was simply an innocent victim of a tragic choice made by someone who wielded a firearm.

In response to the devastating loss, school officials made the difficult decision to cancel the school’s homecoming dance. The Bremen High School District 228 released a statement expressing their condolences, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the devastating loss of one of our Hillcrest High School students. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of all those involved in this tragedy.”

Marshawn Mitchell had recently transferred to Hillcrest High School, seeking a better environment, after starting the school year at Brother Rice High School in Chicago. He was a gifted athlete and had aspirations of playing football at Hillcrest High School and, one day, making it to the NFL, following in the footsteps of his older cousin.

Marshawn’s death has left a profound void in his family. He shared a special bond with his mother, and their relationship was made even stronger when he graduated from 8th grade during the same week that she graduated from nursing school. The family is now pleading with anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward and help bring justice for Marshawn.
