Mary Moynihan Died in a Tragic Tree Fall Freak Accident
The victim of a terrible freak accident involving a fallen tree in Sullivan County on Wednesday night has been identified as Mary Moynihan of Sunapee, New Hampshire.
In Sunapee on Wednesday night, Moynihan, 22, was killed when a tree collapsed on her car during a storm.
A tree reportedly fell on Moynihan’s Toyota Rav4 around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday when it was traveling on Route 11 close to Trow Hill Road in Sunapee.
According to Superintendent Russell Holden, Moynihan is the daughter of Sean Moynihan, the principal of Sunapee Middle/High School:
We are sorry to tell you of a recent loss in our school’s community. Mary Moynihan, the daughter of Sean and Amy Moynihan, tragically passed away last night. For our entire school, especially our children, this loss is certain to elicit a wide range of feelings, worries, and questions.
The members of the Crisis Intervention Team at our school have received training to assist children, parents, and school staff in times of need. For any student who might want aid with this loss or wants any other kind of assistance, the team has counselors on hand. We invite you to use our resources as parents without restriction.
The SMHS advisory teachers told the students during the scheduled first period advisory. Individual student assistance will be offered for students as required, however SCES students will not be informed at this time.
We will do all in our power to assist you and your child as needed. We are devastated by the loss to our school community.

When the fatal accident happened, Mary, a recent graduate of the University of New Hampshire’s Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics was coming home from work at Fidelity Investments.
