Missing Marcus Johnson’s body was found in Colonial Heights.

Family members express shock and fury over the teen’s disappearance, which has been upgraded to a murder investigation in Chesterfield.

Chesterfield, Virginia, a family is in mourning tonight after the body of a missing adolescent was discovered.

Twenty-five miles after his disappearance, 19-year-old Marcus Johnson’s body was found in Colonial Heights.

The police claim he was murdered, and his killer is still at large. On November 16th, he was reported missing from his house on Esquire Rd in Bon Air.

On November 26, 11 days after he went missing, his family filed a missing person’s report.

Jump ahead to the 21st of December, when authorities uncover a body under a tarp in a Colonial Heights woods near Yacht Basin Dr.

The medical examiner determined on January 3 that the body was really that of Marcus Johnson, who had been missing for two weeks.

Throughout the course of the investigation, his family has been represented by his cousin Tanesha Hudson. She revealed the news of his passing to the public.

Feelings are stirred. In spite of this, Hudson said, “we see it too often, and no one should have to bury a child.” One may say of him, “He was a good kid.”

According to her, everyone in the family is in shock at what happened to the adored 19-year-old.

According to Hudson, “it’s not common for 19-year-olds to just up and disappear.” We must cease normalizing the idea that people can just up and leave without saying goodbye or asking to be contacted again. Something like that just doesn’t happen.

Police in Chesterfield County said they looked high and low for Johnson when his family reported him missing, but the eleven-day gap between the two events made it difficult to develop a reliable lead.

More than two months have passed since the incident occurred, and Marcus still hasn’t returned home after leaving. To get more done, I had to put pressure on the Chesterfield County Police Department by tagging in the media,” Hudson explained.

According to Hudson, these types of cases need more widespread media coverage and funding.

I want law enforcement to employ the tools at their disposal and make the most of the information at their disposal, and then the solutions will present themselves. As Hudson put it, “it will come if you put the power behind it, but if you don’t, this will be just another black man gone.”

According to Hudson, this tragedy has simply brought bias into sharper focus.

It’ll remain a mystery in Richmond, Chesterfield County, and Colonial Heights for the foreseeable future. Everyone will assume that he was a black child who got caught up in the streets or did something wrong, and the case will become just another John Doe. That’s not even required. “Every day, we watch excellent people dying,” Hudson lamented.

She claims that when Black people go missing, there is insufficient attention paid to the situation.

“I felt that Marcus, along with many other people before Marcus, didn’t get the same kind of affection and attention or the same level of community empathy if the missing person’s face is white,” she explained.

Even though his body was discovered in Colonial Heights, police said they are still looking for the scene of the murder.

To that end, Hudson has expressed her gratitude to Detective JM Vaughn.

Senior Detective Velasquez of the Colonial Heights Police Department can be reached at (804) 520-9329 if anyone who knows Johnson or who may have information about this incident wants to talk to him.
