Obituary; Ben Goehring died in a tragic home explosion

Combines paraded down 261st Street past the remains of a decimated home before heading into 40 acres of unharvested golden corn Friday morning south of Humboldt.

Over a dozen friends and family members of the Goehring family had turned out to complete the harvest in the family’s time of need.

“This is neighbors being neighbors,” Corey Goehring said before hopping into a green combine.

His brother Leland, his sister-in-law Lori and nephew Ben were in the home when it suddenly exploded early Wednesday morning. Two hours after the explosion, a passing citizen called 911 around 7 a.m. to report a fire at the scene, according to the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s office.
