Louise Dowdy Patterson, president and chief executive officer of Bountiful Blessings Ministries and a powerful COGIC evangelical leader, was remembered by friends and admirers as a legendary character who made a lasting influence on the area via her deeds of kindness and charity.
Patterson, 84, passed away on Sunday night. According to a family representative, Patterson passed away quietly at home.
The late Bishop Gilbert Earl (GE) Patterson, the previous presiding bishop of the Church of God in Christ, the biggest Pentecostal denomination in the world, was Patterson’s husband. Those who knew her and admired her philanthropic activities claim that Louise Patterson made good use of her large platform as COGIC’s first lady during her husband’s stint as presiding bishop.
Patterson assumed leadership of Bountiful Blessings Ministries after the passing of her husband in 2007. She also served as the general manager of WBBP radio station and president of Podium Records. A Real Pearl, a book she also penned,
Bishop Milton R. Hawkins, the senior pastor of Temple of Deliverance COGIC, stated in a statement that she was a co-founder of the Temple of Deliverance/Bountiful Blessings Ministry with her late husband, Presiding Bishop G.E. Patterson. “Evangelist Patterson was well recognized for her various acts of compassion and good works. She was a well-known person in the church and will be cherished for her grace and guidance. She made a huge noise every time she entered a space.
On Thursday, Dec. 1, there will be a public viewing for Patterson from 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., and a memorial ceremony will be held in his hometown at 7 p.m.
Services will start at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 2, after visitation from 8 to 9:45 a.m.
All funeral rites will take place at Memphis’ Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ, located at 369 G.E. Patterson Ave. Memorial Park Cemetery will be the site of her burial.
