Despite where he has gotten to in his career, the tennis player did not have the easiest of beginnings.

When he was only a year old, he was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a soft tissue cancer found in children.

He had to undergo surgery to remove a tumor before he underwent an extensive period of chemotherapy in London. The chemotherapy, however, slowed his growth, and he was much smaller than his classmates until he was 16 years old.

However, the tennis player now stands at a staggering 6 feet tall.

Luckily for him, a year after he began treatment, he was declared cancer-free. Despite not remembering that difficult period, he believes it has helped shape him into the individual he has become.
