Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black American man, was killed after being detained and accused of reckless driving.

Tyre Nichols was detained and blocked by five Memphis police officers on January 7, 2023. The driver reportedly resisted when police tried to speak to him, and when they pursued him, they caught up with him and detained him. He was taken to the hospital after complaining that he was having respiratory problems.

Nichols was not married but was in a committed relationship with a lady named Katie.

He had a son whose identity has not been revealed to the general public.

Nichols had a stepfather who goes by the name of Rodney Wells. He has 2 siblings. A brother and a sister.

Keyana Dixon, his eldest sister, is employed by the Head Start Program as a nutrition specialist. She works for Oakland Unified School District as an assistant site coordinator. In 2011, Keyana Dixon attended Heald College to study criminal justice. She attended Encinal High School as well. Information about his brother is unknown.
