The 79-year-old actor John Beasley passed away on Tuesday. His son Mike announced the loss of his best friend on Facebook.

In Omaha, Nebraska, Beasley’s hometown, he passed away on Tuesday. Before things took a sudden turn for the worse, he had been having liver testing, according to his son, who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter. At the age of 45, he made his acting debut with Oprah Winfrey in a recurring role on the short-lived ABC drama Brewster’s Place.

The short-lived ABC guest appearances came after that. On the four-season drama series Everwood, which began in 2002 and ended in 2006, he landed his first series-regular role as the aforementioned Irv Harper. Beasley performed narrating duties for the show in addition to his on-screen responsibilities.
