Vidal Lopez dies after crash involving train, leaving Pregnant wife, HPD officer
Vidal Lopez, a member of the force for 20 years, was employed by the Technology Services division.
According to HPD Chief Troy Finner, the Houston Police Department officer who was in critical condition following a collision with a train last week passed away on Monday.
According to a tweet by Finner, 42-year-old Vidal Lopez passed away while surrounded by family.
In this trying time, “we ask you to pray for Vidal’s family and friends, and respect the family’s need for privacy,” he said.
Lopez, a member of the force for 20 years, worked in the Technology Services division.
According to Finner, he and his wife were expecting a kid.
Although there are few specifics at this time regarding the collision, witnesses claim that Lopez drove around another car and the crossing gate arms in front of the train lines on Fulton Street, which is located north of the 610 North Loop and east of the North Freeway. His Jeep was hit by a railway at that point.
According to the police, Lopez was en route to work when the collision occurred.
