Wendell Pierce is an American actor born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is famously known for his role in HBO dramas such as Detective Bunk Moreland in The Wire and trombonist Antoine Batiste in Treme.

He is also known for starring James Greer in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Wendell is also known as high-powered attorney Robert Zane in Suits, and as Michael Davenport in Waiting to Exhale. In 2019, he starred the lead role of Willy Loman in the production of Death of a Salesman on the West End in London at the Piccadilly Theatre.

The Fast Company named him one of the “100 Most Creative People in Business” in 2013. He began a non-profit organization called Pontchartrain Park Community Development Corp. Pontchartrain Park Community Development Corp helps to build new affordable solar and geothermal homes in the area for families displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

Wendell was arrested and charged with simple battery for an alleged attack against a female Bernie Sanders supporter outside Atlanta Loews Hotel on Sunday, May 15, 2016. He was booked and released on a $1,000 bond from Fulton County Jail. He completed a pre-trial diversion program, including counseling and community service resulting in dismissal of the charge

Wendell starred in The Winter’s Tale at the Tulane Shakespeare Festival as a young actor. He also produced and hosted Think About It. Think About It is a youth-themed talk show for the local NBC affiliate station. He also hosted a weekly jazz show on WYLD-FM Radio called Extensions from Congo Square.

Wendell is known for working on the HBO dramas The Wire and Treme. He later starred J. Jenks in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Parts 2 in 2012. He was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead for his role as Joe in the film Four.

From 2015 to 2017, Wendell starred in a revival of the sitcom The Odd Couple on CBS playing the role of Teddy. Wendell became the host of Jazz at Lincoln Center, a nationally syndicated, Peabody Award-winning radio program.
