Collins, however, chose to commemorate his military experience by volunteering at the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) Good Grief Camp over Memorial Day weekend, before the start of the 2019 season.

The event took children who had lost a loved one in the military on a tour of the Pentagon and the 9/11 Monument in Washington, D.C., before hosting a Jr. NBA clinic for the children.

Collins assisted in providing a pleasant, supportive outlet for about 300 campers ranging from four to eighteen. He said that “this volunteer opportunity called out his name, and he just hoped that the kids learn more from their mentors.”

Collins will also remind himself of his realities as he continuously strives to remind others. He would not be able to pay back if his parents had not made his sacrifices for him.

Collins told SI magazine, “The reason I am where I am now is because of my mother.” “Memorial Day occurs only once a year, and that’s not enough to convey my thanks and love for all she’s ever done for me,” he added. I’ll be eternally thankful.”
