Who was Enrico Oldoini? Italian Screenwriter and Creator of ‘Don Mateo’ Dead at 77

Enrico Oldoini was an Italian screenwriter and creator of the popular tv series Don Matteo. He made his directing debut in 1984 with the movie Hearts in the Storm and starred in it as well. He went on to direct several others including He Is Worse Than Me, Yuppies 2, Beautiful Fresh, Bye Bye Baby, and A Short Life.

He started his career in the early 60s when he moved to Rome to pursue an acting career. However, he fell in love with writing and wrote his debut movie in 1976 dubbed And A Lot of Fear. 

Oldoini also wrote Just the Way You Are which was interpreted by Marcello Mastroianni and Nastassja Kinski in 1978. He worked with numerous directors on many films including The Ragassa’s Body, Quick Hand, or Give Me Your Hand. 

He was known for directing numerous tv series and movies including Cuori nella tormenta, Una botta di vita, Anni 90, Miracolo Italiano, 13 at a Table, and more.
