Dr. Joel Portnoy, MD – New Hyde Park, NY
Portnoy was raised in East Hills, New York and graduated 8th in his class from Roslyn High School in 1998. He graduated Magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from Binghamton University in 2002. He attended medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York from 2002-2006 and completed his Otolaryngology residency in Syracuse in 2011.
Portnoy trained as the laryngology (voice) fellow under Dr. Robert T. Sataloff at Drexel University College of Medicine. He was priviledged to study under Dr. Sataloff, one of the pioneering authorities on the care of the professional voice, swallowing disorders and management of the complex airway. This unique training focuses on the art and science of caring for the human instrument.
Professional voice users constitute not only singers, but educators, attorneys, politicians, clergy and others. Portnoy's fellowship was devoted to learning to care for the special considerations and complex problems that faces this growing segment of the population. Additionally, Portnoy is still involved in more than a dozen cutting-edge clinical and basic science research projects that will help us better understand the complex interplay between molecular and cellular biology, phonatory physiology and everyday human performance.
Since August 2012, Portnoy works at ENT & Allergy Associates, the largest and most comprehensive ENT practice in the world, as their Laryngologist for Long Island, New York.
