Chelsea and Italy legend Gianluca Vialli has passed away at age 58, with his wife and children by his side, as reported by BBC.

The passing comes five years after the footballer was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

The former Sampdoria player won 59 caps for Italy and was a Champions League winner with Juventus in 1996. He concluded his playing career in England when he became player-manager of Chelsea in 1998.

On Friday, January 6, 2023, Gianluca Vialli sadly passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Vialli was first diagnosed in 2017 and by April 2020 he had been given the all-clear. Tragically, he was then re-diagnosed in 2021.

His condition reportedly worsened at the end of December, with his family including Vialli’s mother, 87 and his brother rushing to be by his side in a London hospital.

Gianluca Vialli and his wife Cathryn White-Cooper have been married since August 23, 2003. The pair first met during Vialli’s time at Chelsea but tied the knot three years after his departure. Cathryn is a former model and interior decorator, as reported by The Sun.
