After being charged with accepting a bribe, wealthy Russian energy magnate Igor Shkurko was discovered dead in a cell in Siberia.

One day prior to his passing, Shkurko, the deputy general director of the Russian energy company Yakutskenergo, had filed an appeal against the bribery charge.

He also belonged to the United Russia party, which is pro-Putin. Experts estimate that at least 39 similar fatalities have occurred since the commencement of the Russian-Ukrainian war, making Shkurko one of several well-known people to have perished inexplicably.

The cause of Shkurko’s death has not been disclosed by Russian officials, but they have said that they do not think it was the consequence of illegal activity. Shkurko had two kids and was married. He was accused of receiving a bribe that was worth about $6,200.
