Before that, she had internships in several news stations including ABC News, United States House of Representatives. Wood has also spent a couple of months working for Time Magazine.

After spending a couple of years interacting with Toledo locals while working for WDHO-TV in 1980 it was about time to goodbye to Toledo locals and WDHO work-mates moving to Rhode Island, NE, WJAR, where she worked for a couple of years as a weekend newsreader and reporter before she earned a position as weeknight 11 p.m. newscasts in 1982.

She later became an anchor of the 5:30 pm edition in 1988, later got promoted to 5:00 p.m. hour anchor and additional duties as 6:00 reporter in 1997. For her determination and hard work, Wood has been awarded numerous awards including volunteer and professional awards, such as the prestigious Silver Circle award from the New England Association of Television Arts and Sciences and the Congressional Angels in Adoption Award.  Patrice has had opportunities to interview some notable figures Oprah Winfrey, and Mark Wahlberg.

In her career, she has worked with some national figures in the journalism industry like the likes of the late news anchor Doug White, the retired NBC 10 meteorologist Gary Ley, and sportscaster Frank Carpano. More so, she has served commencement speaker at Roger Williams University in 2017.

Her Tuesday’s Child reports, which feature children in state care who need permanent homes, have resulted in numerous children being matched with adoptive families. Patrice is the longest-serving female journalist in Providence television history, with 40 years on the air.

Labor organizers plan a series of socially distanced rallies in Massachusetts

Labor organizers are planning to hold a series of socially distanced rallies across Massachusetts on Monday to mark Labor Day in response to the coronavirus instead of the movement’s typical Labor Day breakfasts.

The main Labor Day event in Boston is a rally with those attending remaining in their cars at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center parking lot.

Boston Mayor Walsh will deliver a keynote address. Other speakers scheduled to attend the rally include Darlene Lombos of the Greater Boston Labor Council and Steven Tolman of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO.

Gates open at 10 a.m., with the program scheduled to start at 11 a.m.

The program will also feature the premiere of a short Massachusetts labor film and will end with the screening of the family film, “Chicken Run.”

Other socially distanced labor rallies are planned Monday at New Bedford High School in New Bedford and outside Springfield City Hall in Springfield.

The Massachusetts unemployment rate that soared during the coronavirus pandemic remains the highest in the nation at about 16 percent.
